Paint, Floors and Cabinets

The painters have finished up at the house and they installed the floors and cabinets yesterday. They also poured the rest of the driveway and the sidewalk and steps leading up to the house.

Making Progress: Baseboards and Shelves

Vandals

So two weeks ago today we got some bad news about the house, vandals broke in and did some significant damage. They...

Poured sheetrock mud into the
furnace basically destroying it

They ripped into the sheetrock around
the plumbing and disconnected it, while
also covering it in sheetrock mud

They threw a lot of the mud around
the house, a lot of it wound up on the
doors and windows

They ripped down the sheeting covering
the insulation in the basement

And they dumped stucco cement in
the master tub, destroying it as well

Not pictured is the fact that they also dumped sheetrock mud down a lot of the plumbing drains. Fortunately, insurance will cover everything, but it also pushes our timeline back. 

We have a garage door!

There has been some significant progress on the exterior of the house over the last two days. Namely the stucco has color and we have a garage door!

Notice the nice trim color around the windows, doors and arches.

They have also mostly finished mudding and taping the drywall.

Our House: 6 weeks to go!

The house is still coming along. Not so many noticeable things on the exterior, but more on the interior now. Though we do have the garage door installed!

They have been busy putting up the drywall and mudding and taping it. Here are a few pics from the last few days...

Our House Catching Up

We were gone to Tucson for 2 1/2 weeks so we missed out on a lot of the house progress, but here are some pictures to catch up on what is going on...

was several days late delivering them.

We have a roof and shingles!

This last one is from yesterday. They have finished the
first coat of stucco on the house and are now giving an
estimated completion date of Oct. 4 or 5, which is awesomely fast!

Trip to Hogle Zoo

We took a trip to the zoo yesterday morning with the neighbors. We had a lot of fun.

We all enjoyed the bird show. They had huge birds swoop down inches above your head. The kids loved it! Claire also enjoyed being part of the pre-show dance party.

Both kids also enjoyed a ride on the zoo carousel.

Our House Day 17: Walls

We drove by the house this morning not expecting to see anything happening being a Saturday and all, but there were guys there working and putting up walls! So exciting to see the floor done and walls going up. This is getting real!

The basement is all framed in. We climbed down in there to escape the heat, it is already so much cooler down there than it was up top.

The kids found a nice shady spot to play.

Our House Day 15: Framing!

When we talked to our builder he had told us that they expected to start framing on Friday the 19th, but we dropped by tonight on our walk and guess what we saw? Two guys already framing up the basement!

Claire and Quinn were fascinated by some of the scrape 2x4s.
